We had to move our desktop to a different room. Problem is, the cable hookup was located too far from it. So we were faced with an interesting dilemna. Should we buy a wireless PCI card or wireless USB adapter to connect the desktop? The broadcast isn't too strong in that room though, so wireless may not cut it. Second concern, if we went with a wired network, is there a long enough cord to go from modem/router to pc?

We still hadn't made up our minds when we got to Walmart. So we ended up buying a wireless USB adapter and a G router (we currently have a B one, with G card on the lappy).

End result? The USB adapter remained unopened. The G router became the main wireless spot and directly connected to the cable modem. An ethernet cable connected the G with the B. B was configured with a new IP address and wireless was turned off. The desktop connected to B. Voila! Working internet. :)

(This post is just for reference in case I need to do a similar scenario again)
