Since we only have a few days left in the Beehive state, we decided to take a trip down to Delta today, to visit the Topaz internment camp where most of Nick's family was sent during WWII.
The site is a ghost of its former self. Most of the buildings were wiped out, though some foundations remained. In fact, if the signs weren't prominently posted, one wouldn't have realized that this land used to house thousands of Japanese uprooted from their lives in the San Francisco area.
It was definitely a sobering experience and one that we hope to share with our son as he grows up so he can appreciate his heritage.
