It wasn't my idea. Nick's district manager told him to pick four places he wanted to get transferred to after his training in Idaho Falls, ID. He wanted Reno from the start. It was an hour from his dad's, 2 1/2 hours from his mom, 4 hours from the bay area, he'd be close enough to California, without the added expenses. I guess it helped too that the state of Nevada has no income tax. I was looking at Roseville or Vallejo. But Nick said my views were skewed because I've only seen those cities when we'd pass them along the highway. Roseville had the outlet malls, and that appealed to the shopper in me. Vallejo just looked nice and green. But Nick said it was welfare capital. Not exactly his idea of living. My co-workers all told me it would be a good place to use my IT skills since there are plenty of casinos. Well, I guess you can figure out where we ended up.
My first impression of the city? Well, once you went past downtown, it's not too bad. It's a mountainous area. There's not a lot of skyscrapers. Traffic isn't too bad, most of it is caused by road construction anyway. People are friendly. Buffets are dang cheap! Lastly, Filipinos constitute the 3rd biggest population in the city. :) That last bit curbs my homesickness better than Idaho.
