My 'big' ultrasound is tomorrow - where we find out whether we're having a boy or a girl. It's kind of funny when I tell folks that we still won't know the sex until tomorrow because they start predicting it. Even more amusing is if I'm talking to my friends and some acquaintances.
Why? Because some of the responses are based on superstitions... So for your reading enjoyment here's a few relating to pregnancy. (I've highlighted the ones which people have specifically said apply to me).
Habits:
- Avoid sitting on a staircase or near a doorway - Prevents a c-section delivery.
- Avoid wearing a necklace or eating squid - Prevents umbilical cord from entangling around fetus's neck.
- Wear black undies to cover the tummy from the witches.
- Hang garlic on the window to block the witches from entering your room.
- Avoid arguing with relatives - may result in complications or miscarriage.
- Avoid gaining too much weight - makes delivery easier.
Sex and number of the baby(ies):
- A woman with a high and pointed stomach carries a boy; a low and rounded stomach determines a girl.
- When the facial features change of a pregnant woman (read: become unattractive), it is believed she is carrying a boy . If her features remain the same, it is believed to be a girl.
Baby features:
- Offspring will closely resemble the thing which the mother craved during pregnancy, so avoid the following food:
- Crab - might cause clubbed fingers and toes
- dark foods such as prunes and black coffee - might result in a dark skinned baby
- Taro root - might cause the baby to have eczema or skin problems.
- Offspring will closely resemble the thing which the mother has been fascinated with during pregnancy. (So people would recommend looking at actress/actor pictures instead of say, hippos)
- Excessive intake of sweets will make an obese baby.
- Cutting hair will make the baby hairless
