I've never had such an annoying time with a router.
After having flaky connectivity with Linksys and Belkin routers, I was feeling fairly optimistic with our most recent peripheral which is a Netgear. It hasn't dropped the connection since installation (except for yesterday's port snafu), unlike the previous routers (which is why we swapped them out in the first place). It's great for basic networks, but once you add in Wii connectivity (wireless) and VPN, it just wouldn't connect.
To get it to work on the Wii, the SPI firewall has to be disabled. To get my particular VPN to work (multple google searches later...), various changes have to be made to the LAN/WAN and port settings. I haven't had to modify any of the previous routers to get them to connect to any of these services... what a pain.
