The camera (SD850IS) I bought in 2007 is starting to get on the fritz so I've been debating if it's worth upgrading to a better camera (read: dslr).

Nick managed to catch me checking out the Rebel Xsi page on newegg and he almost flipped when he saw it was priced at 899.

He said at that price it better take amazing pictures and make ugly people look hot. Ha. That comment totally reminded me of Gizmodo's post on the features that are missing in cameras today...

Then he said if I get that camera at that price he's entitled to getting his own arcade machine...

Umm. No.

Yeah I heard the original was quite excellent, so I wasn't really considering getting the xsi... browsing mainly. :) though at 500+, that's still a little too much for Nick. I don't care much about MP...just would like good quality color/exposure. Are Nikon's any good?

Yeah, I think canon vs. nikon is just about personal preference. I know a lot of photography students are really into Nikons and I don't see much of a difference as far as quality, especially in color and exposure. I think if you want a camera that is going to give you good pictures than either SLR will probably give you similar results.

I actually just got a point and shoot nikon coolpix for christmas. It works okay, but since there aren't as many settings (i'm probably just not used to that kind of camera) I find that alot of pictures come out overexposed, and it doesn't allow you to really tweak that. There aren't as many settings as some of the canon powershots provide you -- modes, etc.

ANYWAY, check out B&H photo video.. they usually have the best camera prices :)
