Today was a pretty momentous day for me. I became a naturalized citizen.
This country took me in as its own and its residents welcomed me as if I've been here all my life. I am very thankful to finally be able to now give back and hopefully make a difference.
94 other people representing 30 countries pledged with me this afternoon. A number of them came up and shared their stories on what this day meant. One particular story touched me the most - one older gentleman shared that he's lived in 54 countries and this felt the most like home to him. He said this is the only place where you are free to dance, speak out, make a difference. You can sleep soundly at night because you have no fear that someone will break in and take your family away to some unknown location because of what you believe.
Wow.
