combo post: heat, birthdays, and cars

So I've been abandoning this blog... kinda sad.

So here goes to munging multiple events in one post...

Life's been pretty mellow recently. Since we left/sold Nick's pickup in UT, we had to make do with just one car since our move here. Couple that with the crazy heat wave (at least 110 every single day) that's been hitting the valley for the past few weeks, we've been stranded at the house all day (trying to survive on 82-85 temps on the AC). On the upside, Kayl's been growing like crazy so everyday's been an adventure as he learns and discovers new things. We have dishDVR and netflix to occupy us, and with my recent discovery of JDrama, that kind of helps ease the monotony too. ha ha.

Nick turned 29 a few weeks ago, but with the heat dampening any extended outdoor activities, we had to spread it out over two days. Actually, staying outside wasn't the unpleasant part, but it was getting inside the car after it's been left outside for a few hours (imagine how hot it gets in there when the outdoor temp is 118. ouch!) We went to lunch to a local BBQ place - Nick's fave place to go and eat. Nick got a free meal (dessert and drink included!), then we headed off to IKEA to look for some shelves and curtains. Then we realized it is getting way too hot to stay outside so we lounged around the house until the sun set and then we went to a local sports bar/grill for dinner. Lazy day.

We didn't have the cake till the next night. It almost didn't end up a birthday cake too, since I didn't buy frosting. Had to improvise with choc chips mixed in with condensed milk. eh. It turned out yummy though.

Cars - let me just say that we have the worst luck with cars. Ugh. On the upside, Nick got a cheap chevy metro recently so we still have a vehicle to use (once Nick gets home. :P)...
