(too bad it was our last...)
We were witnesses to the ripple effect of a canceled flight last weekend.
When we found out that our flight was delayed, we didn't think anything of it. Delays were common after all.
After everyone boarded the plane, we were surprised that we still stayed at our gate. We were then notified by the pilot that there were some mechanical issues with the air pressure system. Main system is broken, and back-up was failing tests as well. Looks like we weren't going anywhere.
Through it all, I was impressed at how calm a lot of the passengers were. (although when we left the gate, we saw that security stood by anyway, just in case).
And just like that, all the flights going back here were packed full. The earliest flight we'd be able to get on was for the next morning at 6am. We had to scramble to get another hotel and rental car. Lemme just say walk-in rates suck. Thank goodness we were able to get a hold of Thrifty reservations by phone and got a semi-decent rate. (Apparently cheaper rentals are now SUV or bigger. More people prefer Economy or compact since it's more efficient, so 'gas guzzlers' are stuck on the lot). They didn't have any SUVs, so we scored a '07 Civic Sedan. Sooo nice. That was basically the highlight of our trip. :)
The only place with internet remotely close to the airport was the Starbucks. I'm really happy that you can get free internet there now (well with purchase of a starbucks card of at least $5). With that, we were able to secure a hotel, without having to deal with walk-in rates as well.
It was a hassle, but not as exasperating as we thought...

Oh and I saw Selma Blair at California Adventure (nick still thinks I just saw a random person who looks like her, but do normal folks get to walk around with a castmember 'bodyguard'? :P)
